  • Carpenter's square
  • Tape measure
  • Hacksaw (depending on ceiling height)
  • 3" lag screws*
  • 16d nails*
  • 8d nails*
  • 1" x 4" temporary support slats (2 pieces approx. 32" long)*
  • 1/4" or 3/8" plywood for shims*
  • Braces with same dimensions as joists
